    What is an eBook?

    American Heart Association (AHA) eBooks allow users to read publications on personal computers and mobile devices.

    What is a course digital video?
    A.

    AHA course digital videos are available in streaming/downloadable format and feature the same content as the course DVDs. This format allows instructors to stream course videos with an Internet connection and is an alternative option to DVDs and DVD players. Streaming videos are to be used by AHA instructors teaching courses.

    What are my rights to the content?
    A.

    eBooks
    When you redeem an access code, you are obtaining the right to read the content online. These rights are subject to technology conditions and limitations as well as contractual agreements between the AHA and its vendors.


    Digital videos:
    When you purchase a  digital video or redeem an access code, you are obtaining the right to watch the content online or in the AHA eReader App. These rights are subject to technology conditions and limitations as well as contractual agreements between the AHA and its vendors.

    If the science in an eBook changes, or if there are updates to the course details before the new edition releases, will I receive updates automatically?
    A.

    Individual AHA eBooks are updated if/when there are major science changes, the course details change, errors occur, or other updates are needed for the edition of the book purchased. Otherwise, supplementary materials with minor changes will be provided.​

    Can I share my eBooks and course digital videos among multiple users?
    A.

    The AHA does not condone the sharing of username/login credentials among multiple users. AHA eBooks and course digital videos are linked to an individual’s eBookstore account.

    Getting Started and Logging in To Your Account

    To make a purchase from the AHA eBookstore, you first need to create an account.

    1. Visit the ECC Digital Products site or contact your local Laerdal office.

    Redeeming an Access Code
    A.

    1. At the top left of the home page, enter your access code where it says, “Enter Access Code.” If the code is correct, you will be notified that it is accepted and then have the option to view your content online.​

    2. Once the access code is redeemed, the eBook or course digital video will become available on your Shelf.

    eBooks can be accessed:

    1. Online by using a computer’s browser on eu.ebooks.laerdal.com (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.)
    2. Online by using a tablet’s browser on eu.ebooks.laerdal.com (Safari, Google Chrome, etc.)
    3. Using the AHA eReader app for iOS or Android (you must first download the app on your device).
    4. Using the AHA eReader app on your desktop computer (you must first download the app on your computer).


    Course digital videos can be accessed:

    1. Online by using a computer’s browser on eu.ebooks.laerdal.com (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.)
    2. Online by using a tablet’s browser on eu.ebooks.laerdal.com (Safari, Google Chrome, etc.)
    3. In the AHA eReader App, once downloaded.


    Note: To view streaming videos, an internet connection is required for all viewing options

    What is the device limit for eBooks and course digital videos?
    A.

    Your eBookstore account can be logged into a maximum of three devices at once. If you attempt to login into any additional devices, you will be prompted to remove a device from your account. You can remove devices by logging out on the device you wish to remove. Course digital videos and eBooks are for single users and are intended to be viewed on one device at a time.

    What can I do with my eBook?

    In addition to reading, you can:

    1. Search: AHA eBooks are searchable; you can search within a book or across your eBook library

    2. Customize: You can highlight text on the screen, bookmark pages, or add notes throughout the eBook

    3. Easily navigate: In addition to accessing eBooks from your library, you can access your notes, bookmarks, and highlights, which become part of your dashboard and quick links.

    Can I print my eBook?

    No. AHA eBooks and their pages cannot be printed.

    How do I access the student supplementary materials for a course?
    A.

    You’ll find a code below the acknowledgements section (in the front of your course manual) to access the student supplementary materials for your course.

    What can I do with my streaming videos?
    A.

    Course digital videos have the following functions:
    1. Search: Streaming videos or downloaded have searchable playlists to easily access certain parts of the course video.
    2. Select Course Option: You can access the course selection drop-down menu to easily access different courses including Instructor-Led and HeartCode.
    3. Easily navigate: Manually advance to the next video, easily return to the previous video to review, or scroll through the playlist to select certain videos.

    Can I download my course digital videos?
    A.

    Yes, course digital videos can be downloaded and played from the AHA eReader App.

    What types of files are eBooks and course digital videos and what are their restrictions?
    A.

    Additional information about AHA eBooks:
    1. AHA eBooks are encrypted PDF/ePub2 files.
    2. AHA course digital videos are .mp4 files.
    3. You can download eBooks to the AHA eReader app on your personal computer for offline viewing (PC or Mac). You cannot use a third-party application to read AHA eBooks.
    4. AHA eBooks cannot be printed.
    5. eBooks redeemed through the AHA eBookstore cannot be read on Apple’s iBook app or any other third-party readers (e.g. Kindle, Barnes and Noble eReader, Stanza, Mobipocket Reader, Microsoft Reader). They must be accessed through the AHA eReader app or online.
    6. eBooks and course digital videos redeemed on the AHA eBookstore cannot be downloaded as a file.
    7. eBooks and course digital videos cannot be copied to a flash drive.

    What platforms support eBooks and course digital videos?
    A.

    Online browsers:
    1.Chrome – Version 70 and above
    2. Firefox – Version 65 and above
    3. Safari – Version 12 and above
    4. Internet Explorer – Version 11 and above
    5. iOS device browsers – Version 11 and above
    6. Android device browsers – Version 9.0 and above


    iOS App:
    AHA eBook Reader app can be installed on iPhones and iPads with iOS version 11 and above.


    Android App:
    AHA eBook Reader app can be installed on tablets and smartphones with Androids OS version 9.0 and above.


    Mac App:
    AHA eBook Reader app can be installed macOS version 10.12 Sierra and above.


    Windows App: 
    AHA eBook Reader app can be installed on Windows 7 SP1 or higher. The application requires Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 to run the application. Windows 8 and above includes .NET Framework 4.5, so you do not have to install it separately. For Windows 7 SP1, you will need to install it manually in order to run this application.


    Note: To ensure the best website functionality, please make sure to use the most recent browser version or operating system. The website may be accessed on older versions, but functionality may not be optimal.

    How do I download and install the AHA eReader App on Windows & Mac?
    A.

    Installation of AHA eReader App on Windows & Mac
    1. Log in with your AHA login credentials.
    2. Click on the Download Reader App button at the top right of the page.
    3. Follow the instructions to install the app. The app icon will appear on your desktop after a successful installation.

    How do I download eBook titles to my Bookshelf on Windows & Mac?
    A.

    Download eBook titles to your Bookshelf on Windows & Mac
    1. Open the AHA eReader app and login with your AHA credentials. All redeemed titles will automatically populate on your bookshelf.
    2. To download to your computer:
    a. In the Thumbnail View, click on the gray Download icon on the title you wish to read. The icon will disappear when the download is complete.
    b. In List view, click on the button next to the title that says Download. The button will change to Read when the download is complete.

     

    *Note: Internet access is required for the downloading process of eBooks. After books are successfully downloaded to the app, the user will be able to view the book offline without an Internet connection in the AHA eReader app.

    How do I download and install the AHA eReader App on an iOS or Android device?

    1. Log in with your AHA login credentials.
    2. Click on the Download Reader App button at the top right of the page.
    3. Follow the instructions to install the app from the App Store. The app icon will appear on your device after a successful installation.

    How do I download eBook titles to my Bookshelf on an iOS or Android device?
    A.

    Reading your eBook on your iOS or Android device
    1. Open the app and log in to your account with your AHA login credentials. Your bookshelf with your redeemed titles will open upon successful login.
    2. Tap on the eBook you wish to read to download the book to your device for offline viewing.
    3. Tap on the eBook after it has completed downloading to read.

     

    *Note: Internet access is required for the downloading process of AHA eBooks. After books are successfully downloaded to the app, the user will be able to view the book offline without an Internet connection in the AHA eReader app.
